
Meet Amalia Mondragón
Amalia Mondragón–Tereso Perfecto Contreras (She/He/They) are a counter-culture bearing, queer two-spirit, Latin Grammy-nominated, vocalist/songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and narrative strategist from the tri-state Chihuahuan desert borderlands of El Paso-Texas, Ciudad Juárez-Chihuahua, and La Union-New Mexico.
Amalia is a materialized cultural femme presentation of two-spirit artist, Amalia Tereso.
The purpose of their TRANSFRONTERIZ art is to contribute humanity and dimensionality to border narratives by exploring identity, gender fluidity, migration, and quotidian life in the Chihuahuan Desert through the eyes and heart of the two-spirit artist.
Amalia Tereso, has collaborated with noteworthy artists such as Los Angeles Negros, Adrian Quesada, Intocable, Luis Humberto Navejas (Enjambre), and Money Mark. They have shared the stage with Beach House, Mexican Institute of Sound, La Santa Cecilia , Grupo Fantasma, and El Gato Negro. She has also taken part in opening acts for Calle 13, Panteon Rococo, Fantastic Negrito, Supaman, George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic, and Jarabe de Palo among many others.
Currently, Amalia Tereso is in the final stages of completing an album, entitled, "Transfronteriz," funded by NALAC, The FORD FOUNDATION, and THE CENTER FOR CULTURAL POWER through the Border Narrative Change grant.
It is a concept musical album that seeks to amplify the unique life of the transfronteriz — people who transit and navigate the U.S.-Mexico border as a way of life — through the lens of two-spirit: Tereso Perfecto Contreras / Amalia Mondragón.
