Amalia Mondragón is a Latin Grammy-nominated, multifaceted, two-spirit, trans-fronterizx, singer/songwriter born in East Los Angeles and raised in the farmlands of La Union, New Mexico.
Amalia grew up singing and began playing the clarinet at the age of 12. Her formative repertoire spans multiple musical genres including mariachi, drum corps, and marching band. Amalia is a staple of the El Paso-Juarez music scene where she participated in diverse genres such as corrido, cumbia, klezmer, balkan , hip hop, jazz, soul, R&B, blues, pop, classical, gospel, Arabic, world music ensembles, among others.
Mondragón has collaborated and shared the stage with noteworthy artists such as Luis Humberto Navejas -Enjambre, Los Angeles Negros, Adrian Quesada, lntocable, Beach House, Devendra Banhart, Supaman, Orkesta Mendoza, Mexican Institute of Sound, La Santa Cecilia, among many other amazing artists. She has performed in music festivals such as the Vive Latino, SXSW, Guadalupe Valley Music festival, The Latin Alternative Music Conference, Austin City Limits, HOCO Fest, among many others. In 2017, Amalia was nominated for a Latin Grammy for her work in The Chamanas (2014 -2016), a Mexicano indie pop music group which showcased her unique trans-fronterizx style.
Amalia Is currently working on an album titled Trans-fronterizx. The album is an eclectic conceptual album that is intended to reclaim the narrative of life on the border as a 2 spirit Trans-fronterizx. She is working in collaboration with various artists and Latin Grammy-nominated producer Juan De Dios.
Tereso Perfecto Contreras is a 23-year old, “Ranchoco”(Rancherx/cholx/conciente), Fronterizx, vocalist born in La Union, NM and raised in the farmlands of Janos, Chihuahua. At the age of 5, his parents separated and due to health complications, Tereso stayed with his Father in Janos where he was treated by traditional ancestral herbs; “Curanderismo” (traditional Mexicano ancestral herbal medicine).
Due to his health condition, his only option for an education was home-schooling where he developed a passion for world music, reading, singing, nature, and curanderismo. His interest in world music has heavily influenced his musical delivery. At the age of 20, he migrated to El Paso, TX to reconnect with his mother’s side of the family. His cousin, Amalia Mondragón, a Latin Grammy-nominated artist, began to manage his musical talents and is currently his songwriter. The sound Tereso Contreras has developed, is heavily influenced by classic Mexicano golden era artists, i.e. Pedro Infante, Agustin Lara, Chavela Vargas, Amalia Mendoza, Lucha Villa, Maria Felix, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Javier Solis to name a few and contains a world music, country, Tex-Mex, blues flair. He is currently developing and recording an album with Amalia Mondragón, Joel Osvaldo Borja, and Latin Grammy nominated producer, Juan De Dios.
